Happy Australia Day! I don't think Aussies are known for being all that patriotic, not as patriotic as other nations - I think that it is because we don't tend to take ourselves too seriously. I'm not saying that we aren't proud to be Australian - its just that we probably don't show it as often and loud as we should.

I lived abroad for six months last year and I think that has definitely made me more loud and proud about the country I call home. My time away has definitely made me appreciate and take notice of what I have, and what a gorgeous country we live in.

I finally watched "Australia" while I was overseas (ironic i know) and I cried through the whole movie.... the countryside was breathtaking (and I'm always a sucker for a baz luhrmann flick - bring on the great gatsby I say!)

I'm spending the hot summer's day out on the high seas with friends on their boat, with lamb cutlets and lamingtons on the menu - Loving everything this great country has on offer.

And who knows Miss Heidi fingers and toes crossed, you may even be celebrating this day on Australian soil this time next year..... xx

I love me some selby in my inbox, especially the past week - Olaf Hajek's Berlin home is fabulous. Who said blackboard walls were 'so yesterday'?? - he uses it so well in his kitchen. He is an artist after all. Fun yet sophisticated, I'm hoping that is where the decorating of the 'SFC' is heading. This is certainly inspiring.I'm thinking there is a small space in my new kitchen that needs a lick of blackboard paint (i'm no artist but i'll be getting some artistic pals over to decorate it.. Emma??...Pippa?? swap a stir fry for some artistic flair in my new kitchen??....)

It feels like forever since I posted, and it kind of has been. But its a good thing. I've realised I spend too much time planning and plotting on how good things could be, when there is no way that any of it is going to happen if i spend so much time blogging and talking about it, I need to DO it. Actually, this isn't a new realisation, but this is the first time I've started taking action. So, I'm not sure how often I will post, but I know when I do, it is because I have something fabulous to share, not because I feel I have to. And surely that is a win/win for everyone! I really can't believe it is Christmas time. Every year I promise myself I will seriously get in to the spirit and enjoy it - but each year seems to get busier and busier. Thank you so much for your support of this here little blog and the shop throughout the year, its been a big year both personally and for Brown Button Trading.

I'm looking forward to some time off between Christmas and New Year to try and get this new little house of mine in order. As I type the wardrobes are going in, and I finally get a bed today (sleeping on the swag on the floor squatter style had kind of lost its shine after three weeks....)

Well, are you gifts wrapped and ready to go? - I'm still purchasing the gifts... (i love leaving things to the last minute, that's how I roll...) - but I've had the paper and tags sorted for a while now! Bespoke Letterpress have a gorgeous range of gift tags and paper available. The paper is great - double sided so useful for non Christmas gifts too. I always get excited about wrapping (probably why i have that and not the gifts organised yet, oops) - Briar has organised some ridiculously cool wrapping for her gifts this year, and she made it herself - too clever and crafty that girl!

I've got a fabulous hallway to work with in the SFC. I want some sort of 'console' table/space happening, and I'm sure I can get something like the above via ikea. I've got two bedroom doors ready for some high gloss black paint (to match the front door).... Maybe I can replicate one of my favourite home images per the above. Although mine will have to incorporate a little more colour. This beauty from Marnie Gilder is currently being framed at the 'frame factory' on Magill Road - they were fabulous. I'm having it framed to replicate how she has framed her other screen prints. If you are in SA, you must go visit. Perfect start to a little art collection for the hallway. Stay tuned....

Dining space done

Sorry for the top blurry pic - I've worked out what I want to do with the kitchen/dining space in the SFC, so the wallpaper is purchased and on its way (whoop!), and I've been on the hunt for a dining table. Jack Horner Interiors on the Parade has provided the answer. They have a fabulous range of tables made of recycled timbers - now I just have to decide between oak, elm or parquetry elm - all just awesome. And seating? Benches would be easy and inexpensive, but soooo not as comfortable and beautiful as the linen upholstered dining chairs they also had available (per above). Kill. Me. Now. They are stunning. I tried to convince myself that I really didn't need them. How? "Surely they won't be comfortable, I'll sit in one to see"......nope, more comfortable than I could have imagined..... Why oh why do chairs have to be so expensive, and you need so many of them?? Just have to decide what colour. - I've got my 'bromley' as well (its a tea towel yes, all the more fitting for the kitchen..) - so at least in my head? the kitchen/dining is done. Next up? Lounge room......

One of the biggest reasons I was excited about my new place is the space to entertain. I was quite happy at the 'shanty' - perfect size for moi. But it was difficult having friends and family around for meals as the space wasn't ideal, especially when you throw kids into the mix - no room for them to run around and play (clearly the children of my guests, not my own!) - I now have a fabulous kitchen space ready for a wonderful long bench table (still looking... any ideas anyone??) - and a great courtyard for outdoor entertaining. And what currently feels like a very long hallway for kids to run up and down (i have never done so much walking in my life, i'm not complaining but sheesh - i was so used to everything being 5 steps away from each other at the shanty!)

Can't wait to start cooking again (i haven't done so for six months, or ironed, or cleaned... spoilt I was in the Philippines) - and I've been stock piling some awesome recipes over on pinterest. There seems to be a repeated pattern of yum salads, kick arse sandwich combos and a lot of carbs! (mac and cheese balls - HELLO!) - now just to organise some furniture for people to utilise when they come over. I'm currently 'camping' at my new house (no, not 'glamping' i wish!) - it will all be worth it I know, but I certainly feel like a squatter in my own home with no furniture and essentials x

End of my time in 'Vanilla'

Can't believe how quickly time flies. Only two more morning of waking up to this view for a while.... My time in Manila (or "Vanilla" as Ruby would say) ends Monday.

What will I miss? Of course - the lovely people and friends I have made, the ridiculous shopping and my excessive time spent at day spas..... but I'll miss the hilarious yet highly dangerous sights and sounds experienced every day on my way to work, seat belts anyone?

.... and the gorgeous Christmas lights on the way home from work everyday....

..... the ridiculously cheap cocktails (from 50c to $3 AUD) - kamikazes, mojitos and caprioskas amongst my favs (i'll be picking up the ingredients duty free on my way back to Oz to serve throughout the summer, I'm not ready to give them up just yet)...

.... the opportunity to 'island hop' over to a fabulous resort for a couple of days - Discovery Shores with Pip and Tom definitely a highlight....

the food.... ahhh the food. So almost like home but not. Like "Nacho Cheesier" (for the record, we didn't think they were any cheesier than Nacho Cheese back in Australia)

...and part of my standard local tour for friends that visited from Australia after a few cocktails out? A trip to maccas to sample the 'McDo' - Deep fried chicken, spaghetti bolognese and servings of rice are far more popular than the quarter pounder or McChicken.

I'm so excited about heading home, so much to do and things to look forward to. Salamat Manila, its been good, I'll be back soon. Mwah xxx

Totally Inspired....

Couple more sleeps and i'm back home. I've been trawling the net to find inspiration to help me decorate my new little SFC. Real Living has a fabulous archive of gallery photos via the ninemsn site. Love, love, loving this outdoor space - and what I love the most is there are many elements here that are the same as my new outdoor space/ kitchen dining area. So I'm so 'stealing' as much of this look as possible. The pergola is painted in "Domino" by Dulux, I haven't sussed out yet if it is a black or really dark grey - I want something similar to paint an exposed brick wall in the backyard that is currently purple (?!). Those red chairs? want want want! Not sure the budget is going stretch to exact copies of these, but I'm definitely going to go red chairs. They will be for the kitchen, that can easily be pulled outside for summer dining. I think this is going to work well with the caviar wallpaper. Now for a kitchen table..... Oh, and see more pics of this particular house here.

Before my darling SFC (single fronted cottage kids....) looked like this and this ....

I thought the worst she must have looked was this (remember I bought her while I was living overseas, pulled this from Google maps, figured it must have been pre renovations from previous owners, but no. It was worse....So I had people come and quote on built in robes, and one of them commented on how much work had been done to the place and what a transformation. Um, hello, i asked, how do you know? He said he googled the address. So I did. And look at the pics I found of my new little home as it was prior to the previous owners buying it....hmmmmm, no thanks!not looking any better from this angle...thankfully they knocked this bit off the back....including this 'updated bathroom' (as it was advertised when previously sold)Much preferring the neat courtyard I now have.

I really am lucky - the vendors did all the renovations and the laundry, kitchen and bathroom are brand new. Literally. The appliance have not even been used. All wrapped up in this gorgeous blue stone single fronted beauty. This time next week? i'm back on the big jet plane to Australia and my little SFC. Philippines has been fab but time for the next adventure. Bring on the decorating!

A mixed bag

I've always loved reading and have used the fact I studied law (which involved lots of boring readings) as my excuse for indulging in chick lit for goodness knows how long. No more excuses, I love the stuff. End of story. But lately I've strayed, and its been fab. First up "Little Bee" by Chris Cleave. Whoa. Still thinking about it. Its a movie too, have you seen it? have you read it? thoughts?

Next up - something completely different. Which is probably just as well. Marieke's book is fabulous and hilarious. Have always loved her work in "Frankie" - it was a total treat reading a whole book of it.

Currently? - I bought this tonight to keep me entertained while I ate dinner (I've become an expert at dining out alone as I'm too lazy to cook and its cheaper it eat out here anyway... well, that's my excuse) - almost through half of it. Tres good too. And then when I was google searching for image above I realised why it was familiar - I'd bought it for Pip when I was last here in Manila (with a different cover).... durrrr.

Any suggestions for my next read? it will have to follow these fabulous ones so no pressure.....

Gosh I love my parents. And they continue to be fascinated by this little blog and my shop - I agree with them, are there seriously people who want to read and see pics of what I like and buy things I've spied as well? apparently yes! So trying to explain the ongoing fascination and success of Marvis Toothpaste is especially interesting. I saw it somewhere quoted that Marvis is the 'chanel' of toothpastes. So when I first got them on board at Brown Button Trading I used this to explain it to dad. Then I realised...... "dad, do you know who/what Chanel is"? - "Yes Kimberlee I do. That is the perfume you bought mum for Christmas". Yes dad, among other things.... To this day dad refers to it as the 'gucci toothpaste'. Love you dad.

Seriously though, the packaging is awesome, a great small gift that is different and the perfect kris kringle/secret santa present given the season! New flavours as well - cinnamon mint and amarelli licorice. So fun. Pip - I'll get you a tube of each, still have you to thank for the intro to the 'gucci toothpaste' xx

Coming Together...

Oops how did a week go past without posting? It's been a crazy last week in Adelaide before I head back to Manila tomorrow. Work has been manic and I've been rushing around trying to catch up with as many people as possible before I head off again.

I managed to have a night at my new little place Friday night (camping style... as I have no furniture etc yet!) - and I keep falling in love with it more and more. As the little 'shanty' will stay furnished for tenants, I have the arduous task of refurnishing the SFC (single fronted cottage) from scratch (please... no sympathy.... I can't wait!) - but it is somewhat daunting. I want to get it right, and it will be different to my other place. Lucky to have darling Emma as a friend who is decorator extraordinaire to guide me!

But I've started. and its coming together in my head. I'll need Emma's final sign off, but I'm thinking this gorgeous caviar wallpaper on the eastern wall in the kitchen. Fits in with the black granite bench tops and my framed David Bromley tea towel.

Movember

It must be November, you don't need to even check the calender. Why? because of the number of moustaches sprouting (some successfully, some not so successfully..... ) on men all over Australia at the moment. Movember is a brilliant initiative to raise funds and awareness for men's health issues, in particular depression and prostate cancer. For those who are not familiar with 'Movember' - cleanly shaved men from the 1st November spend 30 days growing the best looking moustache they are able to and in return they are sponsored for their efforts. You need not know someone who is participating to donate, you can make a general donation. Their branding this year is spectacular, see it here. A lot of fun for such a serious cause we don't spend enough time discussing. Awesome work gentlemen!

One of my most favourite things about my home town of Adelaide is the fabulous little spots to eat and drink and pick up fresh produce - particularly in the Hills. Miss FN and I had a fabulous catch up on Sunday and we had to check out a friend of hers new venture - Farm Gate Providore. FABULOUS. Located in Hahndorf its a perfect example of what Adelaide is all about amongst the somewhat kitsch 'german township'. What a breath of fresh air. And it appeared to be an absolute hit with the tourists. Fresh produce and jams, french pastries and delish looking rustic rolls full of yummy salad etc. And the coffee? perfect. If you are an Adelaide local, get up there and enjoy - I can recommend the vanilla slice. Something tells me i'll be heading back to the Philippines in a couple of weeks quite a few kilos heavier... yikes! x

Hi - short but sweet. I'm home and its fab. Adelaide has put on some glorious weather and its been non stop since I've been back. I wanted to share a fab new spot I visited in Adelaide today with Miss French Navy. But its late, I have to be at work tomorrow and even though it is only 9pm Manila time, its almost midnight here and I still have hours of sleep to catch up on after the 2 hours I managed to get on my night flight home. I landed early Saturday morning with my darling parents picking me up along with Ruby and Harry and there super cool parents (they just did the yellow and white wall in the post a couple below), off for breakfast and then straight to the new house. I LOVED it..... phewwww! it's too exciting, so i had to share another pic. Settlement is tomorrow. Emma and I have already started decorating and scheming over a cheeky cider tonight. So many things happening, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Hope you have had a great weekend, chat soon! x

My time away from home has been amazing. Alot of time for me. Time to meet new people and enjoy their company as well. And I get on the plane tomorrow (actually now today - its past midnight. eeks - i hate planes!...) and return home for a couple of weeks. Then back to the Philippines for a couple of weeks then home in December. I like the idea that you can finish a part of your life and start new. Even if the bit you are finishing isn't bad or sad - it is still an exciting prospect to end and take a new approach. I'm finishing off with the old me, bringing with me the good stuff and starting again at the beginning. Better late than never I say. And what better day to to this than a Friday. Happy end of week. Cocktail Hour

I've always had an obsession with the 'bar cart', and those who know me know I'm fond of the odd drink or three. During my time here in the Philippines I've certainly drunk more cocktails than I know what to do with - wine here is expensive and vile (well, my palate isn't a fan). Cocktails are fun and super cheap here (50c at some places..... seriously).

Given my frequent overseas travel for work, I've been stocking up on spirits duty free with the idea of setting up a good bar, and this has become more exciting now I have my new little place and some entertaining area. Bring on Summer!

However, whilst I've partaken in many cocktails - I have never really made any so wasn't sure what spirits I should be getting etc. Enter the fabulous Society Social. LOVING the concept and their furniture range. Roxy is an absolute power house, the work and effort that has gone into her range, the styling etc is mind blowing. Society Social Facebook link referred to this article by Martha Stewart on cocktail essentials. I now have my shopping list for duty free this Saturday morning (two more sleeps and I'm home for a couple of weeks!) when I land. Thanks Roxy for the heads up!!

Anyone got any good cocktail recipes? Don't like them sweet, but not too sour either...

Sensational Stripes

How fabulous is this! Besides being full of photos of my favourite munchkins (my goddaughter ruby, her little brother harry and their parents), how much do we love their striped wall!! Hols and Darren put in a new kitchen a couple of months ago and have been pondering over what to do with this wall ever since. Holly and I would even have 'skype link ups' over a couple of glasses of wine while we cruised the internet simultaneously whilst being located in different parts of the world looking for the perfect wallpaper.

This pic appeared on facebook this afternoon and I squealed with delight - they have done the most amazing job, but vowed never to do it again, too much work! (I would not have the patience for it). I think we can all agree though that the work and time was definitely worth it.

Can't wait to see it person (not long now..... yay!)

Sorry I've been AWOL - I've been soaking up some fabulous filipino culture with my friend Amy who has just begun her 9 week south east asian holiday and I was the first stop. Thanks Amy!

We came across the infamous Carlos Celdran's 'walk this way' tours - 'changing the way you look at Manila - one step at a time'. Saturday was the 'livin la vida imelda' tour - three hours of fabulous gossip, history and thought provoking views of the Philippines during the 70's, and Mrs Marcos herself. Wow.

Amy made it to his tour of 'Intramuros' on Sunday which covered time from pre-hispanic Philippines to current day. I'm hoping to get it to it this weekend.

I must admit, it has got me thinking about things differently. Oh, almost forgot - how fabulous are his flyers above? pity you can't buy them.....

No surprise i'm partial to the odd button.... and these are particularly beautiful. Not only because of their colour and different designs, but because they are edible. Seriously! These are candy buttons - the ones shown above are infused with pure vanilla., but there are peppermint candy buttons, and even chocolate ones. Where? Etsy of course. Andie's Specialty Sweets. And she creates other fabulous edible delights including scrabble tiles, lady birds, leaves and mushrooms. I think I need me some of them buttons....

I couldn't help myself, and blurted it out here. But now it's official - this little place is mine come 3 November. I'm so excited, I'm back in Oz for 3 weeks to look after things while the CEO is on holidays and this coincides with settlement, I'll finally get to see the house I've purchased!!! - I'll be back for good (well, until my next trip to the Philippines...) mid December, but won't get to properly move in until January when I get all my furniture and white goods back (I'm currently renting out the shanty furnished). Which is a good thing I keep trying to tell myself. I don't want to rush into things with the new place. I want to take my time to decide how, what and where. I was so excited with the shanty, we celebrated at the pub next door with champagne the day of settlement and I slept on the scary carpets (thankfully now replaced) with only a beach towel to act as blanket and pillow that night because I just couldn't wait. I moved in and then painted, when I really should have painted and then moved in. blah blah blah. Some things I wish I had done differently.

So I'm going to take things slowly - luckily the place needs nothing renovated, it's all been done (complete with underfloor heating in the bathroom!?) - so I just need to concentrate on the decorating.... However, short of growing a money tree in the back yard, I think finances will also dictate the speed at which I do things! Thank goodness for pinterest, I'm saving all my ideas there. I'm looking forward to matching 'after' photos with the 'before' ones above. Can't wait to share more with you, hope you don't mind! xx

Well, I have been one lucky lady - three lots of visitors from home, two resorts in two weekends - I'm getting quite used to this. Boracay with Pip and Tom was so amazing last weekend we stayed an extra day. Lots of relaxing, swanning around in the pool, drinking, eating and did I say relaxing? I love to read. "Anthropology of an American Girl" by Hilary Thayer Hamann is a great read to so far - perfect pool side reading. Anyone else read it?

Sorry I've been MIA in blog world. I've had the Adelaide crew over here for the past week and a half and its been lots of mad crazy fun. I'm lucky enough to work with people who have also become some of my great friends, so not only was it fabulous work wise having everyone together (Adelaide and Manila office)- there were a lot of late nights out catching up and being a tad silly! We spent a weekend 'team bonding' at Pico de Loro in Batangas - heaven. Pip and her boyfriend arrive tomorrow night (tres excited) and we are off to Discovery Shores at Boracay for three days - SPOILT. So i'm hoping to be looking this elegant by the beach come Thursday but i'm still recovering from the 'touch of sun' I got last weekend, oops. Catch you soon, life is good x

Miss Millie - look ! finally! the single fronted cottage is mine! Well, it will be come settlement in November. But we all know i'm hopeless at keeping anything to myself. Cooling off period was complete midnight last night. I'll be coming home to Australia mid December to this little pretty.

Two bedrooms at the front of the house leads to the living space. i'm thinking shelving either side of fire place, perhaps even over doorway - like this? (just realised I'd pinned that image twice, I must love it!!)

From the living room, past new bathroom and laundry - into the new kitchen/dining and bi fold doors lead to courtyard area. Loving the fact the renovation and extensions are neutral and white. The outdoor area is what I have been craving, but love that it is low maintenance. My garden style is more this and this, so something to work towards.

Eeks, what do we thinks?? Like I've said, I haven't seen it in person yet, but I can't wait. Even more excited about the decorating opportunities. Hold onto your hats lovelies, let the fun begin! xx

Still madly in love with this bathroom courtesy of Lonny a while back. Determined I would use the Albert Hadley when I renovated the bathroom in 'the shanty', this pic served as the perfect inspiration.

And then I found it in this gorgeous colour way and thought oh oh, lets not use it in the bathroom - maybe this would be perfect for the entrance into 'the shanty'......

But now I've gone and bought another house so I'm not going to waste this wallpaper on 'the shanty' (sorry, you've been relegated to a rental so quickly... and here I thought i was going to be so sentimental about that...) - I wonder if I can work the 'fireworks' into the cottage interior decorating somehow? Bit hard to work out when I haven't even been in it yet... Yes I'm currently in the process of buying a house I have only seen online..... cooling off period Thursday night midnight. Friday. Really? Hey, don't worry- I'm not complaining. But this week has flown. I struggle to remember what day of the week it is here. I was honestly lying in bed on Wednesday night trying to work out if it was Tuesday or Wednesday night. Seriously. I'm trying to work out why I lose track of time here. I think it is because I have no commitments, no regular tv shows to help me track the week days (sad i know, but true), and I don't watch the news. My bad. But it is definitely liberating. Its nice being void of reality apart from work. I will not feel guilty for admitting the only form of 'news' or 'current affiars' i've been watching is 'Entertainment Tonight'...... Work may be full on and rewarding while I'm here, but the rest of life is 'doing whatever, whenever'. And it is fabulous. And I've got four days of fabulous ahead. An extra long weekend in the Philippines, Monday and Tuesday are public holidays. Hmmmm, I could get used to this! x

Whilst it feels like i've been o/s forever, its only been three weeks. I'm not saying that in a bad way - but it is hard to remember the routine other than that i'm living now. I'm yet to establish a social network here, and I must admit, that isn't necessarily bad - it has been nice to slow things down, like was getting a bit mental there before I left, and i'm proud to say - i'm quite comfortable in spending time with moi! - Weeknights include, more often than not - a little jaunt through the shopping 'belts' just around the corner (have to stop in and see if kate spade has anything new, say 'hi' to Zara and buy some cheap (but not pirated) dvd's.... And then I head back to the condo - glass of wine and new 'macbook pro' on lap - i'm in online heaven. Blogs, etsy, pinterest, online mags and stores - there has been some fabulous online Australian stores. A 'newish' online boutique beauty is Jessie Lauren. I've shortlisted by favourites above. A great mix of home wares, fashion and vintage finds. The best stuff always comes out of QLD I say! x

How fortunate some of us are. My heart and head reeled over the Christchurch earthquakes, but lucky for me, I wasn't directly affected. So as new stories took over the headlines, I got to move on. But the effects of the earthquake are still very much part of every day life for those who live there. Enter "Multiply", a creative group of Adelaide woman who have not forgotten their 'sisters', and they are working towards helping rebuild their city, literally. Literally because Christchurch is Adelaide's sister city. Literally because they have been busy (182,784 stitches busy) creating an amazing piece of artwork to support "Gap Filler", an incredible organisation that is responsible for using vacant spaces created by the earthquake that are waiting redevelopment to provide communities with a place to catch up and enjoy by filling the space with art, games and performance stages etc (amazing, right!).

Multiply have made the most detailed crochet squares that have then be sewn together to create an a giant 'eye' artwork to be a part of the SALA Festival. What a stunning piece of artwork for an incredibly awesome initiative. If you are in Adelaide you can see the 'eye' yourself from August 12 in the window of Rodeo - 162-168 Gilbert Street, Adelaide.

Donations can be made from August 12 - keep an eye (he he) on their web page, join them on facebook, twitter - please share their story and what they are doing on your blog. xx

Not one to normally need a legitimate excuse to purchase a mag..... being new to another country and not knowing many people yet, I've been eating out alone (cue the violins.....). To avoid staring vacantly into space while waiting for my meal, reading material is a must (i've even left my iPhone home in Oz, so no words with friends even!). So i've been indulging in some fashion mags. The latest US Glamour mag reminded me how much I love a bit of prep. Tommy Hilfiger has got it down to a fine art and the current advertising campaign is no exception. Its the Kennedy's crossed with the Royal Tenenbaums, and I love it. While searching for some more images from the campaign it was interesting to read the commentary. Many people said it was an unrealistic representation of what life is really like etc. EXACTLY! that is why I love it. A little bit of escapism never hurt anyone. But hey, if life was like any of the images above, I wouldn't complain either.... he he x

Making a space your own

I'm a homebody - there is no denying. So the prospect of uprooting and living in another country for five months was a pretty daunting (yet exciting) prospect for me. My little 'shanty' back in adelaide is very much my space. My things. Don't get me wrong. The condo I am staying in while here in the Philippines is great. Perfect size, very comfortable, great view and very safe. And less than a two minute walk to greenbelt (think squillions of shops, restaurants and a cinema) - but I needed to 'kimberlee-fy' it! Limited in my luggage I snuck in my French Navy stationery, not only to allow me to send notes back to loved ones- but i'm a sucker for packaging and the FN box sitting on my desk here looks super cute, Miss FN also gave me the most divine 'grace' travel tocca candle as a goodbye gift, which was the first thing I retrieved from my luggage when it finally arrived a number of days after I arrived! SOOOOO, I may have justified a tiny purchase from hermes this evening to help 'make my new space my own'.... a gorgeous mosaique au 24 plate (it think it is the bread and butter plate but I think it will do a wonderful job of looking after my jewellery on my bedside table!) - Tell me, what do you like to take with you when you are away from home, to make the space your own?

I already knew the contents of my wardrobe were woeful. But the full extent was discovered this morning as I cleared out my wardrobe. I leave for o/s on Monday and I have leased my little 'shanty' out for six months. Four sorting piles - things to take, things to store at mum and dad's, items for the salvo's and items for the bin. Yikes, there was way too many items for the bin, and salvo's. I'm looking at the positive side of things though - I can now go out shopping for new clothes, and I'll be referring to my 'wish i was wearing' pinterest board. There is a very obvious theme evolving there. Navy and stripes. Lucky I'm moving to a shopping mecca. Stay tuned.... x

I saved this gorgeous cake picture to my pinterest board recently. I thought the gorgeous decoration was marshmallows cut in half and layered. Um, no. Its incredibly well designed icing. Apparently it is quite easy (only takes six minutes), I'm sure it is - I'm good with a piping bag - don't get me wrong, its just the awful job of trying to clean the piping bag etc when you finish that drives me bonkers. But it got me thinking, I wonder if you could create the same effect with marshmallows? Nope, haven't tried it myself, and probably won't - two weeks til I fly out and I can't even find time to add the boiling water to my two minute noodles.... But - if you think it is plausible (the marshmallow decoration idea) give it a go and let me know how it goes! Andie, surely you are all over this? xx

And you think about the things you want in life and go, 'when I lose weight I'll do this', 'when I've saved up enough money I'll do that', 'when I get married....'.... you get my drift. I do it all the time. It's exhausting and self deprecating. Because life is passing me by and I'm really not enjoying it as much as I should. Maybe because thus far it isn't what I had planned/thought it would be like. But maybe, finally, I'm starting to realise that even though it may not be the path I had envisaged, what I am doing, where I am going and who I am sharing it with is pretty amazing. This is a difficult place to come to - especially when so many around you are travelling the path you had envisaged for yourself. Clearly this is supposed to be my journey, so its time to embrace it and enjoy, and who knows, when I start doing this, I'll appreciate myself more and what I have to offer. Time to act and be in the moment- because you never know what is just around the corner x

I've said it before - blogs and online mags are doing it for me these days... but there is still a print mag I get seriously excited about. Frankie. So witty, creative, fun, beautiful - my only criticism is that it is bi-monthly, I want it more often! The latest issue is totally delicious - and I haven't even properly read it yet! Best bits thus far? Page 52-57 "The tools of the trade - five creatives show us what it takes to make music, jewellery, boots, tattoos and art"(and that's just for the pics, like I said, haven't read the words yet), page 73 "tv's greatest flatmates" - from Alf to Blance Deveraux, hilarious! But the best bit? Page 101 to 103 "what I'll tell my kids - four writers pen advice to their {so far imaginary} offspring".... Here are Daniel Evans top ten:

And that is just a taste of how fab Frankie is. As much as I'll miss my Aussie mags while I'm in the Philippines for the next five months, I'm looking forward to consuming alot of American mags. But something tells me I might need to purchase a frankie subscription while I'm there, I'm not sure I can do without!

wait a minute..... its Friday again? - how did that happen?!

its been a very busy and stressful week professionally and personally - and with just over three weeks before I jet off overseas for five months, something tells me this is just the start of it all. Ok - only two more sleeps until 'new years eve' for this little accountant - love me the beginning of a new financial year I do, I'm an accounting geek at heart, don't you worry. Although, I must admit, owning my own shop has taken a bit of the shine away from the celebrations. Why? Stock take. Hate counting stuff (ironic I know ) - so I figure the less 'stuff' I have, the less painful it will be. Soooo, I've decided that BBT is going to have a little end of financial year sale (EOFYS) - It's also time for a bit of 'soul searching' for my little shop, I think it needs a spruce up and perhaps a new direction, something I'll be thinking about and working on in the coming months while I'm overseas (don't worry, shop will still be running in this time, thanks to a fabulous friend). So I'm open to suggestions on what you think should feature on its virtual shelves in the future, but in the meantime - enjoy the sale, lots more other fabulous product available on sale here also. xx

Have you visited the lovely Salvation Jane blog yet? Jane shares gorgeous pics and projects from her home and others, and she has hinted and provided some pretty teasers of a range of products she is developing.... can't wait!

But visiting her blog is a constant reminder to me of the items that STILL live on my to do list..... Jane and I both have the Villemot poster above. I love it soooo much but its confession time. Its still not framed. It's almost two whole years since I purchased it from Shelley. Jane's however, is framed and features beautifully in her home. I really really will take it to the framers this weekend, I have to....

And then there is this gorgeous chair that Jane has 'made over' - isn't it fabulous? Reminds me of the gorgeous chair the wonderful woman of White and Wander picked up for me at auction a couple of months ago that is sitting patiently in a corner of the kitchen waiting for a makeover.... The transformation of Jane's chair reminds me I really must choose a colour and paint mine.....

Jane is an absolute delight and I'm so excited to see another fabulous aussie blog. Thank you Jane for your blog and your friendly reminders to get through my project list! xx

My favs at the moment, and they are all Australian - horray!

Two episodes in and i'm loving the inside look into Australia's Marie Claire magazine. Jane Roarty is fab, loving seeing a styling genius in action. So far I'm loving watching Jackie Frank (Oops i had Jackie French before - i always get that wrong. thanks anon!) navigating her mag to the printers each month.

Offspring. Granted, season one I found seriously frustrating. But season two? i'm in love. How fabulous, brilliant story lines and characters. The best bit about a Monday.

Winners and Losers - believe me I had my reservations. But gosh it is so much fun. Definitely aimed at my demographic but i'm not complaining! Love the two south aussie girls in the cast. But can I ask you, surely Blair has had something done to his eyes?

Happy Weekend! - how STUNNING is this beaded dress. Perfectly accompanied by the infamous Kate Spade royal plantation elephant cane basket. As you know I love Winter, but I'm psyching myself for fabulously warm and balmy weather in the very near future- and this pic certainly assists. You see, I've just accepted a secondment with my work to spend five months working abroad. Cool hey! Actually, not cool - its the wet season there at the moment, so its sticky and humid, um no, I mean warm and balmy..... I'm incredibly excited about my overseas placement and look forward to sharing my adventures with you. I think I'll have more time to blog rather than less, so no fear! I'm not off for another five weeks - better start working through my list of things to do before i go...... x
