Help!

My coffee table needs a makeover. I think the only time I can afford and justify porters paints will be a sample tin which will suffice to paint the infamous 'macgyver table'. I want to inject more 'colour' into my home this year (i suppose you could call it a resolution) - I love it but I've realised I'm quite afraid to use it. I'm currently reading Shannon's book and it's providing me with the confidence I need to use it! So the question is...... what colour?? The photos of my coffee table gives you a bit idea of what I'm working with, although the room has been re-carpeted. I have Jane Price hot pink canvas on the wall, and my fabulous Rubie Green cushions. There is a fair bit of pink so I've decided a hue of pink is out - but anything else is up for grabs. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated! Head here to help me choose a colour! A squillion thanks xx

I really love Bodice. It feels like a summer shadow. I think it would play nicely with the pink. You could also draw a single, large pineapple in black on fabric to match your pillows, use some of the Bodice paint to add some color to the shadings in each diamond shape. Try a natural linen fabric to match the new carpet, and tie in the brown leather.

But, really, you can't go wrong with any of their colors!

P.S. My neighbor dated MacGyver in High School!!

what about "Seven Seas" blue... It's lovely and reminds me of the blue that 'Carrie' paints her apt in SATC. The blue would be like a point of difference in your mostly pink-detailed room... just a suggestion :-) but home diy's are fun!

I'm pretty sold on banana leaf or gelati!

first off... what a great table!
it's hard to see the exact colours online, but really like:
banana leaf, wasabi and apple crunch.
See which one works best with the pinks.

My thought was to paint the entire table in the colour then....just the top, paint on a clear sealer that is shiny to give it some depth.

how fun, i can't wait to see what everyone else suggests.

i was also thinking...
sides in Polo with the top in moulin Rouge with a clear coat of polyurethan for a shiny glass like appearance.
I know you said no pink but with the blue it would look fabulous!

I dare not say anything. I had a hard time picking a color for myself.

I am the same...I buy sample tins of expensive paints & get the best use I can out of them!! I even painted a whole wall (one side) in my downstairs toilet once, & it came out fab..only cost me €6 using an expensive paint I couldn't afford at the time!
I love your coffee table & the look of your living room...I would go for a mustard yellow or perhaps be daring & do it red!If you are not feeling so daring, start off with an off white/cream & move on from there...

Nefertiti gets my vote. Hard to go passed an aqua hue when it comes to a companion for hot pink. And love the gloss top suggestion.

Have you thought of getting a mirror top and then the colour is just a highlight for the sides of the table/shelf? Would be slightly more glam and reduce the risk of the aqua/pink combo looking too 'outdoors on pde.' x

What fabulous ideas everyone has! I love the suggestion of coloured sides and a mirrored top, or glass top ... but if its just paint, how about a green? I love the green ziggy zag cushion so that might work?

Im hardly the expert though - it would have a fifteenth coat of white paint if it lived with me - very unadventurous!

I know you may question my style after I say this, but I think an orange like "blood orange" would look great. We painted a side table a bright orange and always get compliments on it.

I too love the idea of the mirrored top - how about evening dew sides?

I find this stuff really tricky too - I always play it too safe. What about a purple tone like Aubergine, Marrakesh, Blue Cow or Deep Sea - I think they'd look good with the paintings on your wall.

Oh this can be so hard.. I love your paintings (and cushions, of course) and I am def going to need to get that book for inspiration.. ok, I don't have any real paint names but I think a blue ..kind of smoky would be really pretty. But everyone else has fab ideas!
